The Black and Blue and Tennis shoe second annual fund raiser for the Big Canoe Fire Department is being held November 12 at 6pm in Sconti. The Big Canoe fire department is 80 percent volunteer. Not only do we work in Big Canoe but we are called out to Dawson and Pickens county to assist. We are proud of the fact that as a community Big Canoe has one of the lowest fire insurance component costs in our mountains. As a volunteer in the Fire Department not only do I work with structure fires but I am part of the North Georgia Wild land fire task force.
What this all means is that many of us give back in many ways to our respective communities. So this is my pitch for your help. If you are in North Georgia tickets go on sale this month. They are $75.00 each. We will be sold out. The event we hold is a casino night. you get 2 drink tickets, and 1,000 "dollars" in chips. These chips are cashed in at the end of the night for drawings for some GREAT donated prizes. The prizes include getaway weekends. Free chimney sweep , Restaurant coupons and a lot more. Along with the 2 drinks we are serving hot food and there is entertainment. Last years event was the talk of the community and many folks from in and out of Big Canoe are planning to attend.
If you cannot attend it is important to know that we as volunteers often use our own money for equipment and gear. Volunteer fire departments are really the first line of defense in rural America when it comes to fire. So I am asking my ActiveRain friends if they find it in their hearts and wallets to help us help our neighbors by sending what ever you can.

I have been to a few fires this year already and donations have really helped us with equipment used to save homes and people. Some one brought a camera to yesterdays training .
