Jasper Marble Festival

Today was the Jasper Georgia Marble Festival. The Apple festival in Ellijay Georgia is going on now too. Fall is a time for festivals in the mountains. We are celebrating great weather , harvests and getting ready for winter. Jasper supplies much of the countries marble and the festival is a lot of fun.

I was having an open house. But before you feel too sorry for me I was right along the parade route .Here are some pictures .photos during the parade

There are folks out waking and floats pulled by pick up trucks

Of course all the local fire departments had trucks in the parade . The kids love to hear the horns.

Of course there were local farmers and floats as well in the Parade. The whole event had a quality about it that said small town. If you saw the movie Doc Hollywood with Michael J Fox you know what I mean.Our mountain communities are great places to visit live and raise families.

My open house got a lot of foot traffic so all in all as open houses go it was good.

The small things

A sight in the forest

Your walking along in the woods. Maybe you see a stream. You are looking at the birds and the trees. In the summer the woods can be dark and cool. Fun to walk in and then you see it. Take a closer look (below). The mushroom is this small intricate thing that springs out of the ground. It is life. It has it's own birth, death, and reproduction. So we post great landscapes and all kind of pictures. I know I do. But along the way we need to see the beauty in the small and understated. It helps us appreciate who we are and puts our work in perspective.

Spring ! ?

This weekend in the South we got a big burst of COLD air. All the plants that we moved outside  had to come back in. So the question is when is it really spring !? 

If you count Spring as the last frost date then Spring in our area is April 15. If you are in the mountains it could even be a little later. So be advised. Do not let those warm March days fool you. Wait a little longer to plant.Don't worry if you are a little late the plants will catch up !

I am itching to get out and about. Many of us think ths winter was longer than most. Happy Out-doorsing. After all that is what living in the mountains is all about
